Secure Your Garage Door Before the Storm
Garage Door Hurricane, Tornado, Wind Protection
While no garage door can be considered a hurricane or tornado proof garage door, Secure Door’s exceptional performance capabilities have been proven through independent laboratory tests and may be as close to that goal as possible.
Tested & Affordable
Secure Door® is an extremely effective, highly affordable solution that provides wind protection for garage doors in the event of a major hurricane or other high velocity wind event.
Aircraft Grade Aluminum
The product is a vertical bracing system made from high quality aircraft-grade aluminum that attaches to the inside of the garage door. More than just tracks, it is stronger than a garage door alone.
Strengthens & Supports
Secure Door® hurricane, tornado and high velocity wind garage door protection strengthens the door and provides support for the door in addition to the garage door tracks.
Secure Door® is a hurricane, tornado and high wind garage door brace that converts most existing garage doors to a storm, high wind or hurricane-resistant garage door.
Why Garage Doors Fail
A garage door, which is often the largest opening in a home, is only held in place by the rollers in the track. When the wind blows at the door, it creates positive pressure – the higher the wind speed, the greater the pressure. As the pressure increases, the door bows inward and the ends of the door are pulled toward each other (or toward the center of the door) as well as causing the roller to tilt an angle. Since the front of the tracks are flat, the rollers pull right out of the tracks and the door sucks inward.
Tested and Rated for High Velocity
Secure Door has been tested to meet High Velocity Hurricane (HVHZ) standards, including the area of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties which means protection against winds up to 180 mph.
Garage Door is Weakest Opening
The garage door is potentially the largest and weakest opening of your home to a hurricane, nearby tornado or other high wind event. Once this opening is breached, you are at risk of losing your home.
Responsible for 80% of Home Damage
According to the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes about 80 percent of residential hurricane wind damage starts with wind entry through garage doors. This also applies to other high velocity winds like tornados.
FEMA ADVISES GARAGE DOOR PROTECTION
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has identified the loss of the garage door as one of four major factors in homes damaged and destroyed in Hurricane Andrew. In any wind storm, protecting the garage door helps save your home.
Garage Protection Can Save Your Home
The director of the National Storm Shelter Association explains how garage doors are the weakest link in the home. If the garage door goes, consider the rest of the home lost as high-velocity winds pressurize your home resulting in blowing the roof off.
